Marco Neri (Forlì, 1968) began by tackling in his painting the theme of architectural representation and of towns in the second half of the 1990s, a natural development of his preceding decade’s work devoted to paintings of landscape, at first in a classical manner and then slowly becoming more concise. This led the artist to undertake his series of
Windows, 1999, works that were both paintings and installations; these led to his meeting with Harald Szeemann who invited him to the 2001 Venice Biennale where he exhibited Quadro mondiale, 2000: all the flags of the world, shown in the centre of the international exhibition in the Italian pavilion.
