On the occasion of Arte Fiera’s special anniversary, Studio la Città has accepted the fair’s invitation to take part in the special section I Protagonisti – the gallery having been suggested by various collectors – which gathers together those galleries which with their work have made “a contribution to the history of modern and contemporary Italian art”. In 2012 Hélène de Franchis chose this event to announce her farewell to international art fairs. Then, the large-scale installation Armada by Jacob Hashimoto marked this retirement. At a distance of four years, this present participation by Studio la Città has the aim of being both a tribute on this important anniversary and, at the same time, an act of recognition for how much the fair has represented in the gallery’s history. This was, in fact, the first Italian fair in which Studio la Città had taken part, experimentally anticipated in 1973 by the Düsseldorf fair and, in 1974, by that in Basel. Over time the gallery increased its participation in other important international art fairs to the point of taking part in ten or so each year: Paris, Cologne, Stockholm, Madrid, Chicago, Frankfurt, Miami, Shanghai, Milan…
The spirit behind the cultural and aesthetic proposals of the gallery’s first years of activity are those that are still followed today by Studio la Città. To be more specific: its participation in the special anniversary of Arte Fiera will consists of a booth showing artists who were the protagonists of the recent shows that have been held in what, since 2007, has been the gallery’s new exhibition venue.
