Giorgia Severi

Giorgia Severi was born in 1984 in Ravenna. She studied mosaic restoration and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in her city of birth. She travels from when she was very young, driven by passion for art, mountains, forests and the relationship between man and nature. Soon experiences of artist residencies and projects led her to work and live abroad, as in India where she worked at Jaipur University and Australia for two years where she collaborated with Aboriginal communities. Her base camp is Italy where she has her atelier. Passionate about botany, herbal medicine and agriculture, Giorgia Severi experiments agricultural practices in her own piece of land in Emilia Romagna. She collaborates with different artists for projects and residences on an international network. In 2015 she was invited to show at 56°Venice Biennale where she took place with the official pavilion COUNTRY ( collateral of the Australian one ), in collaboration with Aboriginal artists. Her work focuses on the natural and anthropic landscape, in its continuous geological transformation and cultural landscapes ( which the artist intends as result of the relationship between people and the environment in which they live ). She works with installations of large drawings or casts on paper and cellulose about portions of landscape, performance and video, sound installations and sculptures. Her work is based on archiving portions of landscape which is going to disappear as we know it now.
