On the occasion of the eleventh edition of First Step – Prima eravamo soli, a showcase conceived and promoted by the Academy of Fine Arts of Verona, Studio la Città presents in its showroom the project iosiamo by the young artist Milena Gottardo (2001), centered around an ambivalent process of knowledge and recognition of one’s own appearance.
Hélène de Franchis found this series of works interesting as it stems from the artist’s deep introspection, in an exchange between self-awareness and recognition. “My work,” says Milena Gottardo, “is an evolving journey that develops like a chain, where each link represents the evolution of the previous one. The works presented here, for example, are three photographic images and a still frame taken from a video piece, following a series of graphic works created by experimenting with a particular condition in which, in fact, I worked without wearing my glasses, thereby depriving myself of clarity. However, this also limited my ability to be distracted by the details.”
