Nine years after his first show in the gallery, Stuart Arends now returns to the Studio la Città with his most recent works. It is as though, with his small parallelepipeds, this American artist (born in 1950) had summed up and captured the deepest essence of the colours of the landscapes and skies that surround him in New Mexico where Arends has lived for some years by now.
Over the years this Iowa-born artist has made use of various materials: wood, steel, even wax. But these recent works consist wholly of wax, almost as though to underline the lightness and transparency of the work in comparison to the exhibition space, with which it enters into deep dialectic relationship. The forms are invested with light which reflects the external dimension and which enters into them to become wholly at one with them.
