On the occasion of the finissage of Andrea Fogli’s exhibition Figure senza nome, Hélène de Franchis is pleased to invite you to the presentation of the volume 7 Atlanti – curated by Stefano Chiodi and published by Quodlibet – on Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m. at Studio la Città.
Denis Isaia, curator responsible for the exhibitions and the Contemporary Art Collections at Mart, will engage in a dialogue with Andrea Fogli.
The book delves into seven sections, exploring the series of works presented in the exhibition at the Mattatoio in Rome last February, some of which are currently on display in the gallery. In particular, it includes drawings from the Diario dei 59 grani di polvere and the works in plaster Figure senza nome.
The central part of the volume features photographs of the installations and works from the exhibition, taken by Simon d’Exea. Each of the cycles is accompanied by excerpts from critical texts that, over the years, Giorgio Agamben, Jan Hoet, Denis Isaia, Marta Ragozzino, Carla Subrizi, Tommaso Trini, and Peter Weiermair have dedicated to each of the 7 Atlanti.
7 ATLANTI brings together the cycles of works created by Andrea Fogli from 2000 to the present, arranged in a fluid, non-chronological journey guided by affinities and resonances. Each series is presented as an Atlante—a diorama of figures, names, and places, both real and imaginary, collected day by day through ritual gestures or diary entries. The Atlanti each consist of a different number of elements: often 59, like the beads of the Catholic rosary; sometimes 365, like the days of the year; and occasionally 111, like the pages of the hermetic red books of Alighiero Boetti. This dialogue between daily experience and inner vision expands toward a broader horizon, intertwining with the natural environment and collective space. Thus emerges a web of suggestions that traverse time and memory, creating an intense conversation between materials, images, and words. Stefano Chiodi
