The Office of Pastoral Care for Culture of the Diocese of Bergamo, in collaboration with the Adriano Bernareggi Foundation, promotes the project IMMAGINARE LA SPERANZA, curated by Don Giuliano Zanchi. Four artists attempt to “imagine hope” in four Jubilee churches of the Diocese of Bergamo, creating a distributed exhibition—a spiritual and artistic journey that encompasses four places of faith, prayer, and devotion.
The initiative will run from April 5, 2025, to January 6, 2026, and will feature four contemporary art pieces by four artists, displayed in four Jubilee churches of the Diocese of Bergamo.
The venues involved will be the Monastery of San Giacomo in Pontida (featuring the work Fidati di lei by Giovanni Stefano Rossi), the Sanctuary of Madonna dei Campi in Stezzano (featuring A Beautiful May by Giovanni Frangi), San Pietro Apostolo in Trescore Balneario (featuring L’eternità davanti by Paul Moroder), and San Giovanni Apostolo in San Giovanni Bianco, where the work Iper Sacro by Davide Maria Coltro will be displayed.
Like a modern altarpiece, this piece consists of “media paintings” that depict the relationship between the Sacred Thorn, kept in the parish for centuries, and the blood traces of the Man of the Shroud. The symbol of the Thorn and the digitally transfigured blood traces, testimonies to a mystery that still challenges science, become not only signs of suffering but also symbols of redemptive hope.
