From March 8 to 15, the Freedom exhibition will take place in Verona, an event that has chosen Contemporary Art as a testament to the International Women’s Rights Day, this year marked by the theme The Power of Women.
An initiative of the Department for Gender Equality, which, through the innovative network project “Artiver” for contemporary art in the city, brings together six Veronese galleries – Galleria dello Scudo, Studio la Città, Galleria Gaburro, Marcorossi artecontemporanea, Artericambi Gallery, Kromya Art Gallery – and the Achille Forti Modern Art Gallery in a shared exhibition held across multiple venues.
The project takes its name from the title of the performative and photographic work by artist Liu Bolin, created on March 8, 2023, in connection with the protest of Iranian women. Each exhibition space presents one or more selected works by Italian and international artists, bringing together diverse artistic expressions, techniques, cultures, and backgrounds, with equal dignity of gender in a multifaceted vision.
“The power of women” – explains the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Gender Equality Barbara Bissoli, – is a power that encompasses many meanings: expression of potential, but also action, guidance, inclusion, welcome, and creativity. If the difference between an artist and an artist is represented by a small apostrophe to distinguish women and men in the artistic field, the significance of that sign is still relevant today. Hence, the special initiative of this distributed exhibition, which through ‘Artiver’ connects the works of some important city galleries with the special proposal created by the GAM for International Women’s Rights Day.
