In 2023 the Kunstsammlung Neubrandenburg exhibits the artist Hiroyuki Masuyama. The title of the exhibition Cycle of Times chosen by Masuyama alludes to the fact that he often works in cycles and referring to different moments in time.
The exhibition includes the work “After Caspar David Friedrich, Neubrandenburg in the morning mist, 1816/17 No.02” which reinterprets the motifs of Caspar David Friedrich, merging past and present. The original oil painting inspired Masuyama to create this work for the first time in 2016, in which he superimposes the present and the past, the original of the oil painting and the photo of the current situation. Other series deal with the experience of nature. The “Flowers” lightboxes feature detailed flower meadows throughout the seasons. The highlight is one of Masuyama’s wooden balls, which can also be visited from the inside. The 2018 “0” sphere has a diameter of 3 meters and amazes the visitor sitting or lying inside with 30,000 holes of different sizes that recreate the starry sky.
