HANS RICHTER, Multiple

Hans Richter was born in Berlin in 1888. He studied painting in Berlin and at the Akademie in Weimar. At the end of the war, which saw him engaged until 1916, he moved to Zurich and joined the Dada movement. Painter, director, historian and theorist, he is considered one of the greatest exponents of the historical avant-garde, and one of the first to investigate the relationship between painting and cinema; between the 1920s and 1930s he made several experimental, advertising or documentary films, until the feature film “Dreams that money can buy”, made in the United States in 1948 with the collaboration of artists including M. Ray, F. Léger, M. Ernst and M. Duchamp, fundamental film of the American neosurrealism.
