HIROYUKI MASUYAMA, After J.M.W Turner. The last journey to Venice
Hiroyuki Masuyama’s light boxes are not simply photographic reproductions of William Turner’s paintings and watercolors.
Instead, they are a conceptual operation on the working method of the great English artist. The subject is the works that Turner created during his journey from London to Venice. Masuyama retraced the stages of the journey and, like Turner, took visual notes, only with a different medium: he switched from drawing to photography.
