HIROYUKI MASUYAMA, “O”
Hiroyuki Masuyama (Tsukuba, 1968).
“I created a 260 cm diameter sphere using approx. 4,200 small pieces of wood. If you close the round door you see the whole starry sky from above (North Pole) to the bottom (South Pole). The surface of the sphere is pierced by 30.00 holes, which with the help of star charts I placed exactly in the real position of the stars. Through these small holes pass 30,000 electric cables with different diameters (from 02 mm – to 2.00 mm) that bring light from the outside to the inside of the sphere. In this way all the stars shine with different intensities and the impression that you have is reinforced by a special echo. It’s a special experience”.
