LUCIO FONTANA, Piccola Battaglia

Lucio Fontana (Rosario, Argentina, 1899 – Comabbio (VA), 1968)

Lucio Fontana was probably ceramist in the same way that painter, in a close unity of pure research and applied art, where disruptive plastic solutions have led to the intuition of spatially active matter of his Concetti Spaziali. In 1935 he began to become increasingly enthusiastic for clay, an earth material that conveys the artist’s lively gestures. Works like the small, glazed ceramic Battaglia, dated 1947, are important testimonials to this.
