LUIGI GHIRRI, Reggio Emilia 1990

Luigi Ghirri was born in Scandiano in the province of Reggio Emilia in 1943. He began to photograph in 1970. He mixed the influences of Pop Art and Conceptualism to reflect on the theme of representing reality itself.
From 1980 onwards he was involved with various projects devoted to architecture, making photos above all for Aldo Rossi, Vittorio Savi, and Paolo Zermani. Later on landscape became the centre of his interests, and he organized in 1984 the group exhibition Viaggio in Italia at the Pinacoteca Provinciale di Bari.
He became increasingly concerned with the territory of Emilia Romagna, where he lived and worked.
He died in 1992 in Roncocesi (Reggio Emilia).
