MARIO SCHIFANO, Barchetta a Vela Bianca
Mario Schifano (Homs 1934 – Roma 1998).
Mario Schifano was one of the fundamental Italian artists in the painting of the late ‘900: his volcanic mind, perpetually projected to the future and uncontainable creative charge, has certainly contributed to the definitive diffusion of art as a consumer good for the masses.
Schifano was a child of the ’60s and ’70s, a period of technological realism disguised as experimentation, in which the power of reproduction made television or cinematographic images and pulp magazines eternal.
In this scenario, Schifano found himself completely at ease, and the collages and photographic film retouched by fast colored brushstrokes, made in less than an hour, are a significant example.
This work on paper is part of a larger collection, born in an experimental way between 1978 and 1982, and initially not finalized for the market.
