MIKHAEL SUBOTZKY, Beaufort West

A young revelation from the Magnum house, Mikhael Subotzky (Cape Town, 1981) quickly established himself as the most interesting and promising reality on the South African photographic scene, arriving with his first US solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in September 2008. “Beaufort West”, the first, beautiful, volume published by Subotzky in a limited edition of 3000 copies, takes its name from the town of the same name, also home to a prison, located between Cape Town and Johannesburg.
