RIYAS KOMU, Midnight’s Children

Ryas Komu, an Indian Muslim sculptor living in Mumbai, does not want to know the subtleties of the language of art. However, he wants to say something through this language: his is an ethical motivation, not an aesthetic motivation, and for this he runs the risk, consciously, of being a moralist. His struggle against the dominant ideologies is so clear that it is almost didactic, but it comes from a world which is still allowed to be naive, provided that it respects the rules of its naivety.
